Meet-Up In Soho, NYC

It was the first ever Original Minds Meetup since we launched in May 2024. It took place at the Crosby Hotel in Soho, NYC at the end of June with colleagues, partners, and a few curious new people present. It was the first of many to come, a pilot of sorts. My warm thanks to everyone who came.

Here are my three key takeaways from the event:

1. Nothing beats IRL

Meeting people in “real life” is just the next level. I mean, it sounds crazy to even have to say something that self-evident, but if your post-pandemic reality is mostly about remote work and Zoom meetings, getting among people and having real conversations is refreshing to say the least. But more than that, connections tend to go deeper, trust is built faster, and relationships are likelier to be built from live meetings than online.

From meeting some of my new colleagues at Original Minds to potential partners, new members, and other people, I made a commitment to doing more lives meetings then and there. Live meetings will be a big part of Original Minds. I knew it before, but after this experience, I felt it on another level. I encourage anyone in business to spend more time with people outside the virtual world. It pays. Big time.

2. We all crave human connection

Without exception, all the people I meet in the space of “online consulting and freelancing”, (including owners of agencies and consultancies with employees) tell me how much they crave human connection. It’s a human thing, surely.

Working for yourself is great, but at some point it gets lonely. And more than that, it restricts our capability to grow and reach our true potential.

Meeting people who share similar goals, values, and passions just makes me feel more motivated to serve the greater good, not just my own needs.

Connection is also the prerequisite for collaboration, which of course is the core idea behind Original Minds. When we make connections, we can form partnerships, we can collaborate and everyone wins.

3. Together, we can do anything

This insight is fast becoming our one of our core mantras at Original Minds. “Apart, We’re Limited. Together, We’re Boundless”. It is just so true. When speaking with people building and growing their expert businesses, practically everyone acknowledges how limited their are in terms of time, resources, money, energy, ideas, connections, you name it.

The consensus is, when we try to build something by ourselves, we get stuck easily, and its hard to build something beyond a certain level.

Unless.

Unless you collaborate.
Unless you partner.
Unless you share.
Unless you are generous.
Unless you get help from others.

Together, we’re boundless.

If Original Minds sounds like something you’d like to get involved with, reach out and lets’ connect.
